Heading

The quick brown fox

Body

Jumps over the lazy dog. Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works. Good typography is invisible; bad typography is everywhere.

Pro Tips

Rules of thumb for great font pairings.

1

Contrast is key

Pair a serif heading with a sans-serif body (or vice-versa). The visual contrast creates hierarchy and keeps the reader engaged. Avoid pairing two fonts that are too similar.

2

Limit to two fonts

Using more than two typefaces on a single page can look chaotic. Stick to one heading font and one body font. Use weight and size variations within the same family for additional hierarchy.

3

Match the mood

Consider the personality of each typeface. A playful handwriting font paired with a geometric sans works for creative brands. A classic serif with a clean sans suits corporate and editorial projects.

4

Watch x-height

Fonts with similar x-heights sit better together. A heading font with a very small x-height next to a body font with a large x-height will look unbalanced. Compare proportions before committing.

5

Test at real sizes

Preview your pairing at the actual sizes you plan to use. A combination that looks great at 48px + 24px may fall apart at 16px body text. Always test in context before finalizing.

6

Designers love these

Some timeless pairings work almost every time: Playfair Display + Inter, Montserrat + Merriweather, Oswald + Lora. Start with proven combos until you develop an eye for what works.
